NASTAR COOKIES

Nastar. This is a popular cake when Eid Al-Fitr. Every time you visit someone's house, you will find this one cake. Even though it is a mainstay menu during Eid Al-Fitr, actually this nastarcake is also delicious to be used as a daily snack.

Nastar is a kind of pastry made from flour, butter, and egg dough filled with pineapple or chocolate jam, or other flavors. The savory cookie dough is also full of butter aroma, blending with the sweet jam that is inside.

WHERE DOES NASTAR COME FROM?

This nastar cake is already very popular in Indonesia, but the fact that nastar cake is not from Indonesia. This food comes from the land of windmills which is the Netherlands. The name Nastar is a combination of the Dutch languageananas which means pineapple, and taartjes or tart which means cake.

The inspiration for the nastar cake was a Dutch pie made in large baking sheets filled with blueberry, apple, or strawberry jam. When the Dutch came to Indonesia they had difficulty getting strawberries, apples, and blueberries for the pie jam. Finally, the nastar filling was replaced with pineapple jam.

In addition to the content of the nastar, the shape of the nastar has also been modified in Indonesia. If in the Netherlands the pie is processed in a large baking dish, in Indonesia the nastar has a small round shape so it is easier to consume

In ancient times, nastar was only served at big moments of government so only the nobles could enjoy it. Now, nastar can be enjoyed by all people and you can make it easily at home!

WHAT JAMS CAN BE USED FOR NASTAR FILLING?

In addition to pineapple, there are also several fruits that are suitable for filling nastar such as strawberries, apples, grapes, durian, dates, or blueberries. You can try other jam flavors!

WHAT CAN YOU ADD TO NASTAR?

This cake will be more beautiful with small pieces of raisins or cloves on top.
